If all my costume pieces are constructed using the same measurements, why is it that my pants fit with a couple inches to spare in the waist, but the ball gown makes me feel as if I gained 4 inches around my midsection?

What happens to the fit on my pants when I'm dieting, crunching, stretching, tucking and working out to trim my waist so it will fit into the ball gown?

It's the law.
Elegant things must always have a tighter fit so you have to suck in and hold your breath all of the time.
Either that or the person constructing your ball gown has trouble measuring things.
Math is hard!
